American Pharaoh was the first horse to win not only the Triple Crown but also the Breeder's Cup race = Grand Slam! Never done before.
Involve your students in this soon-to-be event while reviewing fractions, calculating miles per hour and miles per minute of horse racing, and learning about the measures of “hands” and “furlongs”.
A lot of CCSS are addressed in this task. This is a very "number operations" heavy lesson full of rational number operations and conversions, see CCSS below.
