Lunar New Year

In this updated activity, students will explore the unique naming system of the Lunar New Year, which combines the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches. Without explicitly introducing the term "Least Common Multiple (LCM)," they will calculate when the naming pattern repeats and see the connections between math and culture.

📝 Suitable for Grades 4–7
⏰ 30–45 minutes, depending on grade level

Note: Be sure to check the speaker notes in the starter slides (see solutions & supporting materials) for teaching tips!
