More than 2 months ago, 33 Chilean miners were buried deep inside of a copper and gold mine. As those miners are about to be rescued, use this investigation like a news article about the event. Students are asked to calculate volumes … the miners living space, the amount of ore in the escape shaft, the lateral surface area of the metal shaft lining, and their survival chamber’s depth under the surface of the earth.
